I'm so proud of the wordplay in my title hahahahahaha 🤣🥹 this is peak copywriting genius you are seeing.

Before I really believe in my writing prowess without sarcasm, today I'll be talking about that time we went to a palace in full Hanbok-sans the traditional shoes.

In planning this trip, we categorized each day to a theme where our 2nd day was all about 🍃nature🍃 then this 3rd day was supposed to be about ✨culture✨. What better way to embrace South Korean culture than going to Geongbok palace wearing a beautiful Hanbok?

Like our 2nd day, we start this day early following the advice from a former colleague who has been in Korea a couple of weeks before me that it's best to go to the Hanbok rental shops earlier than the crowd to be able to have better choices of Hanbok, and be able to avail of the hairstyling service 🫰 Good thing we followed the advice because when we returned to the rental shops at around 12 noon it was soooo FULL that there's already a queue to the changing booths!

I booked our Hanbok rental service via Klook HERE. The one we booked was the most basic one but it includes this white fur cloak (for winter time only of course hahaha!) basic hairstyling which isn't usually available in other rental shops. But Aiza (mah best friend) being the EXTRA that she is she decided to have a more complicated hairstyle for an additional fee ✨🫰

Other extra items that are not included in our package are the purses which we rented out for 200 Korean won, and traditional shoes which we didn't avail that's why we don't know the price lol

Last minute checks before we head to the palace grounds

We arrived just in time for the changing of the guards! I just remember how awful the accent of the English translator who was explaining what's happening to the crowd! It sounds like the meme "Number 15 burger king foot lettuce" here!

Oh wait, better yet I'll show you here:

Hahahahaha!

After the changing of the guards, people flock over to the ticket booth in order to have access to the actual Palace since the changing of guards happened at the outer courtyard. Tickets are free for children and those who are wearing a Korean costume, but upon observation there were still a handful of people who did not rent out a costume and opted to pay a visit in their civilian clothes.

I look like my niece here uwu 🫰😂

Eventually I have let go of my hair from its braided wonder since wisps start to poke out from my hair anyway.

Overexposed hahahahah!

We have only rented out these garments for 2 hours, and since we have already spent an hour and a half taking photos in the palace grounds we weren't able to visit other places like the Bukchon village.

This one was taken before we return our garments 🫰

To sum it all up, here are some tips I can give to those who want to try this experience in the future:
✓ Wear something solid underneath: Especially in the winter, best to wear a thermal underneath because it tends to get cold even if you feel like you are already bundled up. If ever you go in a warmer season, it's still best to wear something solid colored underneath since the skirt kinda opens up in the back and when it does you get to see the petticoat which is not as opaque as you think it is.
✓ If you don't want to rent out a purse, bring a cute small bag instead: Since the garment doesn't have pockets, it's best to bring a purse to put your phone, camera, wallet, and lipstick.
✓ Wear comfortable shoes: Aside from the fact that it's a far stretch to go from the rental shops to the palace grounds, the terrain also changes from cement, sand, and even uneven rocks! I wore my Dr. Martens that day and it spared my feet from additional pain.
✓ Be friendly: In this way you can ask someone to take a quick snap of you and your friends- in turn you must also do the same for them 🫰
✓ Go early! : How early, you ask? Be there at around 8-9 am! When we got there we were the first ones so we were able to really have our time picking which hanbok to wear and also have our hair styled 👏

And that's it pansit! It was a nice experience that I would like to do again in the future with my mom or my boyfriend 💕 Saranghae 🫰

Love Always,
Nicole

Inspired by this meme going around about a player in Hogwarts Legacy that got sorted to Azkaban since it would have been too nice for the sorting hat to place him to Slytherin *hingaaaa ang haba ng intro*, I present what could be a possible autobiography title for me... And well, this post about this café we went to in South Korea.

943 King's Cross is a vaguely, yes vaguely, Harry Potter-inspired café in Hongdae. It's not that hard to spot it when you are already in the area since it's a 4-storey building with a facade that makes you feel you'll be passing through platform 9 3/4.

The first thing you'll see from afar is this huge broomstick that looks just grotesquely huge hahaha!

Upon entering you'll immediately see some Harry Potter-esque dark academia themes such as vintage books, candelabras, newspapers as wrappers of boxes, portraits that look like it came from the victorian era housed in ornate frames, and some corked bottles to imply that a corner is an apothecary. But prior to checking out the different levels of this café you must order at least one drink first.

Different levels have different themes, like the one on the 2nd floor is supposed to be The Great Hall where there are 2 looooong tables and smaller tables scattered in the floor. On the tables there were ornatee candelabras, and other themed clutter like a small gramophone, and old books scattered everywhere giving a lively ‘there are students here’ feel.

On the 3rd floor the theme is Gryffindor common room, where this café converted wooden bedframes into tables. Sadly I wasn't able to take photos of it because I got so excited seeing some of the robes and hat that I can use to 'cosplay' as a Hogwarts student.

It would have made perfect sense if they had an actual fireplace because at the time of our visit it was freezing sans snow, but I guess an actual one would be hard to maintain- I don’t know, we don’t have these back home hahahah!

Potions anyone?

Of course, here’s a photo of the food. Since we are very indecisive with what to eat. “Do I want cake?” “Am I too hungry for a heavy dish?” “Ohh bread!” are some of the thoughts that run through my mind while reading the menu. Eventually we decided to get this platter and 3 Butterbeers-which are actual beers!

What you see here are cherries, nachos, fries, fish nuggets, a Turkey leg, and the best pineapple we have ever had! It's so sweet but not too sickly that it ends up tasting like candy- until now I am still salivating at the thought of it 🤤

I was pleassantly surprised that the Butterbeers are under the alcoholic beverage category since I got used with the ones sold in Universal Studios, one with soda and buttery foam on top. With regard to the taste… ehhh, it’s ok I guess hahaha! It’s not too strong, and the butter complemented the beer making it smooth to down it.

Come to think of it my outfit that day was on-point with the Harry Potter theme, I was wearing a long black coat, shirt & sweater, and my trusty Hufflepuff scarf hahaha!

Staircase has these eery Victorian paintings that felt as if they were watching your every move. None of these paintings have any imagery of known Harry Potter characters, because they are not really licensed 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Then there's this little nook which I think is supposed to be a scary dementor.

The basement feels like a tavern, but once again no actual Harry Potter items hahaha! Also this is where they sell alcoholic drinks. As much as I want to try a cocktail or two, there were no bartenders nearby 🥹

That's it pansit! Hahahaha! It's a good experience for a Potterhead who wants to take photos, get a bit drunk, and bond over with like-minded peers ✨

Love Always,

Nicole
