Airport fashown 🤣

It feels so good to be traveling international again! I missed all the rituals traveling entails like buying things for the trip, packing clothes while having the nagging fear that you might exceed your luggage allocation, and waiting for your flight in the airport 🫰

This trip was originally planned for November, however due to the intense schedules and the very elusive booking of visa appointment, no joke it felt as if I'm trying to buy a KPOP concert ticket, it was that intense, we decided to move it to March with hopes that we'll see cherry blossoms 🌸 (SPOILER ALERT: we didn't see a single cherry blossom hahaha). Also originally it was supposed to be me and my college bestie, Zai, only but good thing we were able to persuade our friend, Trizia to come along!

The budolan

Fast forward to March 12 where we all arrived in the airport at 7 p.m. for a 1:55 a.m. flight- yup, I kid you not we were THAT early in the airport due to the recent horror stories with the Philippine Immigration. To give a quick background, there were a couple of horror stories about travellers getting off-loaded from their flights due to how looong the interrogation of immigration officers to every Filipino traveller heading out of the country. I mean, yeah it's understandable that they are just doing their job to stop human trafficking however is it even rational to ask for a copy of the traveller's yearbook? Like, really? Luckily we did not experience any hiccups, leaving us with a lot of time for dinner and doing whatever it is below 👇

Teresaaaa!

Upon landing in Korea at 7:00 a.m. Korea time (yep they are 1 hour advance) we were immediately greeted with the icy cold weather. I was sort of expecting it to be as cold as Tokyo in Feb with at least 9° Celsius and I actually loved that weather, but ooooh boy Seoul welcomed us with a chilling -2° Celsius hug!

Quintessential "I am here in Korea" photo.

I just want to sleep hahahahuhuhu.

Before we leave the airport we claimed our booked wifi device via Klook at the SK telecom booth in between exit 9 & 10 at the arrivals area. FYI, it's not enough that you have booked your device online, they require that you present a credit card just in case you damaged, lost, or unknowingly took the wifi device with you back home, they can charge you using the credit card details.

We took a train going to our hotel, and I think we spent only around 4,000 to 5,000 Korean Won compared to getting an airport bus which would have cost 10,000 upwards per person. But before boarding on a train to Seoul station, we first got our own T-Money Card via a Vending machine. The T-Money Card costs around 4,000 won, then once you have purchased it you can start topping up the value so you can use it to pay for train and bus rides- I'm not quite sure if it's as powerful as the Japan's Suica or Pasmo cards where you can use it to pay for almost everything 🤷🏻‍♀️

Our hotel, Hotel First Stay, is near Seoul's City Hall around 300m away from the subway station, and was surprisingly near Myeongdong (I actually realized this on our last day haha).

Since our hotel only allow guests to check-in at 4:00 p.m. and we arrived in the hotel at 11:00 a.m. we decided to eat something and wander around the area.

I don't feel hungry yet, so I had this bread with cream inside ... Average tasting, I give it a 5/10.

My instax run out of batteries but good thing I found these Lithium Duracell AA battery in a 7Eleven. So expensive at 5,000 won tho 🫣

Straight ahead you're already in Myeongdong 🫰

We ended up in Lotte Young Plaza after having our mini 7Eleven lunch. Their malls are pretty similar to those in Tokyo, they maximized each floor space with lots of brands and mini shops and made it really tall with 7-storeys! Unlike here in The Philippines, most stores are at max at 5 floors but takes a lot of space horizontally.

Jin 💗

At the top of the mall with an outside garden.

Aside from the mall, we weren't able to explore the surrounding places since we were all dead tired running on only 2-3 hours of sleep 😴💤

I guess that's it 🤣 Days 2, 3, and 4 in separate blog posts🫰

Love Always,
Nicole

Although I have created more artworks in 2016, I am still pleased with the amount of artworks I have created and produced in 2021. There are days when I feel like my works are pieces of crap, but there are also days when I feel kinda proud with my slow progress 💁🏻‍♀️ Win-win situation sya.

Anyhoo, here’s a recap of all the artworks I have drawn using both my old Samsung Tab A and iPad Pro- in no particular order because we are into that very chaotic life hahaha!

1. New art style
Since I am such a body of contradictions, let us start with the very first artwork I did for 2021 which is the one on the left side, the right one is just a full body version of an artwork I did in 2020. When I drew this I was feeling a bit 'experimental' and opted for an artwork sans the line art. I am not too happy with it, but hey at least I tried sige, convince mo lang sarili mo na ok hahaha!

2. Me and my obsession with white booties

Aside from the fact that drawing these white boots are easy AF, they really look so pretty and versatile! Currently on the look-out for a trusty pair of white booties in real life 👌💁🏻‍♀️

3. The 'Naiwan ko bang nakabukas yung pinto ng bahay' look.

This is part of my one week of drawing per day challenge that I have imposed on thyself. It was easier to do that since we were put on work from home that time 💁🏻‍♀️ About this drawing, I got inspired once again by how chic Inslee Haynes' illustrations are 👌

4. Wide-eyed wonder

My dream OOTD should I find myself travelling in London someday <3

5. Dream #OOTD in London

Just part 2 of the above but with a glorious rich brown Marni Trunk bag.

6. "Oh really?"
An artwork with a slight change in art style. I actually like this artwork, should probably do again in the future.

7. Landi responsibly.
An artwork that I originally drew on physical paper with pencil. I really wanted to do a coquette-ish style but still with a tinge of innocence- IDK, was I able to pull it successfully?

8. NYFW Sept. 2021

This one I did during isolation due to Covid-19, which happened during New York Fashion Week last September. Supposedly the girl wearing the frilly dress is the influencer Best Dressed who loves to wear girly vintage-y dresses mixed with accessories that are sometimes quite edgy.

9. Watercolored dots

I saw this hack somewhere where you can sort of imitate the texture of a watercolor paper in Procreate by painting the background with a very faint cream color using a certain kind of brush, then et voila your artwork will have a sembance of a watercolor artwork.

10. Rain, rain go away!

I remember back in July when we went to Boracay and it was so stormy that we ended up snuggling in our hotel, that time the waves are soooo strong that it wasn’t safe to go to the water. To kill time, I ended up creating this autumnal pop look instead of something sunny and summery.

11. VQA
A request from our company’s president for the whole Mercury group’s owner’s birthday ✌I’m not as adept in creating semi-realistic portraits, but if it means brownie points… e di ok hahaha! Also, hope this could be an example that I can accommodate commission works 😉😉😉😉😉 Uy malapit na Valentine’s day!

12. "Kyah kaw ba 'tong Red na Adventure?"

I do miss wearing cold weather appropriate clothing like coats, heavy knit sweaters, and thigh-high boots! If you wear those articles of clothing here, better expect some funny looks and awkward sweat patches.

13. I play to win, against Nemesis!

As part of a friendly project with my good friend, Alex Esmeralda, we did a coloring book where we combined 2 characters in one. I did one for Princess Bubblegum x Chibi Moon and this, D.Va from Overwatch x Jill Valentine from the Resident Evil franchise. Despite finishing the coloring book last 2020 it was only last year when I decided to color it. I am proud of myself for  the detailing I did with D.Va’s gun hehe.

14. Kate Spade fanatic spotted on the beach.
On the other side of the coin, I also did this during our vacation in Boracay, but compared to the other one, this is sunnier and more vacay-themed appropriate.

15. Mainit ang tsaa ni Marites

I just want to draw someone sipping tea.

16. Qui Vivra Verra

17. Mieux vaut être seul mal accompagné

After so many years, this is the closest thing to a calligraphy I can muster to do, Shame.

18. Dance wiv me

Kunware ginawa sa papel, pero digital talaga.

19.  ‘Baliw, ibang red adventure yang pinapara mo!’

Partner to "Kyah kaw ba 'tong Red na Adventure?"

20.  Stormy Summer

21. Woman

22. KDrama

Peg: Korean Webtoons.

23. ‘Idlip lang ako’

24. The Despedida gift

Another “Nicole, pagawa naman ng drawing” kind of drawing.

25. Concept art for MEDIPLAST
I have plans of creating stickers for MEDIPLAST,  but there are more pressing priorities to do first haha!

26. Live colorfully!

What a Kate Spade gal would have worn on her way to dinner date in NYC.

27. ‘Wala na daw thigh part’

I’m still on the look out for a similar coat.

28. XOXO, Gossip Girl.

Last artwork I did with my Samsung Tab A, where I just digitized these 2 sketches I drew on paper.

29. Sakura Viewing Dream OOTD
Outfit sponsored by GU, LOL.

30. She’s magic ✨

Not my proudest moment tbh.

31. Emily in Champagne

Please refer to Emily’s outfit when she’s about to leave Champagne.

32. The First One

I copied the pose from this Fashion Illustration book. That’s all hahah!

33. Bottoms up in SoHo 🍷

There was a time I got so hooked with Cyn’s song, Drinks, that I revolved this around a concept of drinking your way back to freedom and being an independent woman who needs no man.

34. The Hobbyist.

Experimental #2 lol.

35. Summer in Amalfi OOTD

I still wish to wear this outfit when I go to Amalfi someday- and yes I don’t care whether Cottage Core is no longer “in” by that time.

36. ‘Ganda lang ang ambag’

2nd to the last artwork I did with my old tab, and back then I just discovered how to use uncommon brushes like this feathery ones.

37. Angry plant lady.

Just a mom being protective of her offspring 😂

And that's it pancit! For 2022 I really do want to extend myself and offer my 'services' lol pangit pakinggan in creating more artworks and commissions. We got a number of big plans for 2022 and extra dough would definitely help in getting it near to fruition...  so if you know any I am one message away 👏

Love Always,
Nicole
