Today, I feel like sharing one of my newest watercolor works :) and here it is:

Here's the thing, those people who are close to me would affirm how sketching women in wonderful garb has been my comfort zone since who knows when. Though, there was also a phase in my childhood where I got addicted to sketching Daniel Radcliffe's face, but the thing is I got stuck to drawing women in fancy clothes.

Exhibit 1 (not the Dan Rad obviously hahaha)

Sure, I enjoy every single time I finish an artwork, but there were times where I would think: Is that all I can do? That's why I decided to foray into calligraphy, and watercolor creation of other subjects.

As always
I remember doing calligraphy last year, but only started learning the techniques this year, as influenced by my best friend, Zai. I used to think so low of calligraphy, like I would think, 'That's so easy, everyone can do that in seconds!' Truth, everyone can do it, false, it isn't easy and you can't do it in seconds (unless you're a pro, round of applause to you😀). Like any other art forms, calligraphy entails a lot of practice and trial-and-errors. A lot of times, I would be frustrated with how unnatural my swishes and letters would appear, but of course that shouldn't discourage you from continuosly studying this amazing craft.

Aside from learning calligraphy, I decided to face my biggest challenge: Florals. I'm not that fond of flowers, especially those bundled in a bouquet, because I think it's a waste to get a thing of beauty, kill it, then pass it off as a gift. I suppose that kind of mentality stuck with me ever since I was kid, that's why I never got interested in learning the dynamics of watercolor florals. But since florals make a good companion to dainty calligraphy, I thought, 'eh, why not?' So, I decided to watch a lot of Youtube Tutorials, and ask my artist friends for tips and criticism.

As I've mentioned awhile ago, everyone can learn this craft, and I have some quick tips for those who want try it out 😗

1. Start small, dream big: It's ok to start with the simplest creations, like doing letters for instance. You have to make yourself accustomed to creating, then slowly but surely you can try out doing more difficult creations.

2. Make the most of what you've got: If you're not originally artistically inclined and do not own tools, that's ok. I recommend that you buy the affordable ones available in the market right now. For watercolor pans, I recommend dipping your brushes on a set of 16 watercolor pan from Simballion which I think retails for around Php 300 or $6. Another good reco, one that even my Artistic Director friend fondly recommends is the basic 8 color Prang watercolor palette, that retails for Php 250+ or $5. For brushes, go buy generic ones from best buy or from local craft stores.

3. It helps if you have a friend who enjoys it as well: I'm actually lucky to have a bestfriend who enjoys calligraphy, and watercolor Florals as much as I do. With that, we get to exchange ideas, and tips, also we get to encourage each other to be better artists.

4. It's not in the tools, it's in your talent: I remember talking to a young girl from this Facebook calligraphy group that I'm affiliated with. The girl is really good, but her confidence level is low, because she thinks she's not doing well because she's using low grade materials. It sure is great to have top-of-the-line materials (and I'm not shaming those who got the fancy stuff), but these does not define the artists' ability and talents. You can do well using whatever resources you've got, and managed to be an amazing artist, which leads us to...

5. Practice, practice, practice! In practicing, you get to make it a muscle memory, hence helping you be more accustomed to creating. Also, in practicing as much you could do, you make wonderful progress! Hence the saying, practice makes progress.

I think that's about it! Doing Art is actually very therapeutic, that's why everyone should do it 😗 Make Art Not War!

Love Always,

Nicoco

Upon checking the definition of the word Haul, one of the notable definition of a haul is: "A quantity of something that was stolen or is possessed illegally." Just to make it clear, I paid for every single thing in this post hahaha!

https://78.media.tumblr.com/cd582b534f0c62446598141716a0847b/tumblr_nsi4pbC8a11tpri36o1_400.gif

Sooo, last Friday, October 27, 2017 while checking out my facebook profile, I've noticed at the upper right corner is an ad from BeautyMNL that says you get to pay Php 1 only for shipping. My frugal heart started beating, that I decided to check it out.

Mecca
You see, on a regular basis if you spend less than Php 1,500 on products from BeautyMNL, you get to pay Php50 for shipping fee. However if you decided to full-blown treat yo' self on beautiful things, and surpassed Php 1,500, you don't have to pay for shipping anymore.

Anyway, for those who aren't familiar with BeautyMNL, it is an online store/community that sells and features make-up, skincare products, hair care products, and all things that will make you beautiful (they even sell accessories, and little acrylic things to put your make-up in). The first time I discovered this amazing site was last year, and ever since then the brands that they carry keeps on expanding. From mainstream brands like Maybelline and E.L.F., to lesser-known (but equally amazing ones) like Petra by Pixi. They also carry amazing high-end brands like Chanel, and even those that you most likely only be able to acquire if you're in another country, like Kylie lipkits, and Colourpop; but not anymore, because BeautyMNL saves the day!

Sooooo, since I'm not that heavy on make-up (Lip and Cheek Tint + Eyebrow Powder girl here) I don't intend to buy a lot, at most I just want to try out local cult-faves that are worth every penny. Sooooo, shall we begin?

https://78.media.tumblr.com/181369d4b5f48345818023e6924ae01e/tumblr_oy8h603Js51wcomj2o1_400.gif

As I've mentioned, I saw the Php 1 ad last October 27, 2017 and at that moment, I found myself ordering 4 items. All of the items I bought are locally made, so I'm pretty excited with each product I bought.

Time check: 12:46 PM 30th of October 2017. Yep, my order arrived! BeautyMNL never fails when it comes to delivery time! Even with my 2 previous orders, it never exceeded more than 3 working days before I get my hands on my goodies. However, I think if you order today you won't be able to get your order by tomorrow or on Wednesday, since it's a holiday :(

THE GOODIES

Here are the items I've purchased:

1. Skin Potion's Flaunt Thy Lashes Eyelash and Eyebrow Hair Grower - Php 199.00

Smol tube is smol
I don't know, but I was kinda expecting a bigger tube hahaha! Supposedly, my main goal is to buy a brand new mascara, and I've noticed this one particular mascara by Lioele which retails for Php 199. Aside from its reasonable price, there are a lot of promising reviews about it. Just when I was about to click "Add to Cart", I then realized that it's already sold out :( So, upon further checking of different eyelash products, I stumbled upon this.

Since hair growth doesn't happen over night, and I have yet to try this out, will make another post about this product ;)

2. Skin Genie's Lip and Cheek Stain Alive in Merlot - Php 80.00 (YUP, I'M NOT JOKING)

Now, this one is a cult favorite amongst BeautyMNL buyers and reviewers, having a whopping 1,586 review (and counting), it did not take me so long to be persuaded to buy it. Aside from its affordable price, and good reviews, this lip and cheek stain have 13 different swatches to choose from!

I already tried this, but will definitely make a separate post for this beauty <3 p="">

3. Bath Junkies' Pink Party Love Potion cologne - Php 50.00 (Not joking)

smol bottle is kyot

The size of this pretty cologne is as big as your handy mouthwash spray, but oh boy, the scent is so powerful. This is the first product I tried upon opening the package. At first spritz, I was surprised with how overwhelmingly fruity it is! It smells as if you drowned yourself in a pool of grapefruit juice! No kidding! But after an hour or two, the strong smell subsides, now it smells fruity but delicate. A good buy indeed!

And the last, but not the least...

4. Pink Sugar, It's Awesome BB Cream in Light - Php 499 but currently at Php 199 (Yup, SRSLY)

Now, this one is a tricky purchase. I've always find it problematic thing to purchase foundations, BB creams, or anything that needs to properly match your face's skin tone (yup, your hand and your face don't share the same skin tone), since you really can't swatch it on your neck, or your monitor may not be able to fully show the right color of the product. Anyhoo, I still proceeded in purchasing this BB cream, since it was on sale! I purchased the Light color, then immediately regretted it since it may not be the right color for me. However, I kept in mind that if this doesn't suit me well, I can give this to my older sister, who's skin is as fair as a paper.

Like the Lip and Cheek Stain, this product has 87 reviews, so I did not think twice and bought it. Haven't tried it yet, but once I do, will make a separate post about it :)

And that's it! My mini haul (sans the stealing) in BeautyMNL made my heart aflutter, and my wallet cry a little.

Love Always,

Nicoco

...Or better titled as "Let's Dump Every Picture Here" post instead, because oh boy, it'll be one huge photo dump blog :))

Ay Juskelerd!
As a continuation to my 2 previous posts about my Hong Kong trip last year ayjuskopo, since our last day was spent roaming around Mong kok buying anything for pasalubong (gifts or trinkets you bring back home to your family and friends) there's no template or story flow for this post. While most of my companions bought shoes and apparels, I bought a bunch of Kinder Egg Surprise, because aside from how dope that shit is, it's not available in the Philippines... oh, and did I mention that the eggs I bought has surprise Star Wars themed toys? Yep, most of my money went to Kinder Surprise, totally worth it I must say. Anyway, here are the photos from the last day, and the day we go home:)
Ahhh, my favorite site

My Hurr

True love exists

The fries from McDonald's HK is so sad, I immediately had fries when I got home.

For HKD 50? Nah, I'll buy 2 Mochi Ice instead

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
TEMPTATION.
Basura girl x The Gap hahahaha!

Anong mararating ng HKD 50 mo?

As I have mentioned in my previous post, please do not forget about your Octopus Card, because you can have it en-cashed in the airport and have dolla to buy whatever shit your heart fancies. However, if you have plans to go to Hong Kong within the year you went there, might as well just keep it in your wallet and have it reload. Aside from the Octopus card, I've also mentioned about shopping in the airport. I think it is pretty much common sense that things in the airport are usually more expensive than those sold outside or from the city proper. For instance is food, a McDonald cheese burger meal with regular fries and drink is sold for HKD 23-27 if you're going to have it in HK proper, but in the airport it goes as much as HKD 28-35. Anyway, here's a list of tips and things to note when you go to HK (from my experience, of course hahaha!):

1. Mong Kok is where you can buy all the inexpensive goodies, and booking for a room there in major hotels can be pricey, however there are cheaper options you could also check. Check Airbnb, because there are some hosts who are very hospitable and will guide you to the best spots in HK.
2. On that matter, before being carried away with the low prices of hotels, check first where it is located, and how accessible it is from the main roads and the MTR stations.
3. On the subject of location, please PLEEEEEASE avoid going to Chung King Mansions, unless if you really want to have a slum time in HK, then go and enjoy hahaha!
4. The night markets are the bomb! They go as late as 12mn, and that also goes for the numerous food booths and street foods! Just bear in mind that if you go to night markets, expect pushy Chinese vendors who will literally chase you just so you'll buy their merch.

http://jupiter2.tumblr.com/
Nope.

5. Not all the things you see in the night markets are more inexpensive than things you could have bought from home. For instance, here in Manila my boyfriend bought me a lemon bag for Php 499.00 or roughly US$10, but when I go to HK, I saw that same bag being sold for around $30, in one of the stalls in the night market.
6. Go check out different supermarkets, particularly Taste! If you're in a budget, they sell yummy meals like yang chow rice with beef stew, and even sushi for a price of HKD 20-40. The prices also drops before the store closes (which is around 11pm).
7. Don't be afraid to get lost! Wifi is abundant in HK, and you can usually connect to high speed internet in malls and cafes without the need of passwords.
8. THERE'S A MALL IN EVERY CORNER! Check 'em if you've got the time, because they are all pretty, and somehow you'll bound to stumble upon sales!
9. Don't ride taxis, walk and take the public transpo instead! Walking in the streets of Hong Kong is fun, because there's a lot of things you can see in every corner, and it's safe too!
10. Bring/wear comfortable shoes!

Lastly, here's the most important tip I could give you:

11. First, check Langham Place Shopping Mall in Google maps. Coming from Shan Tung Street, turn right to Portland street where you'll see a KFC. From there, just walk until you see the 360 store, where you'll find the mecca and get to buy this:
Hoard, I tell you.
Basically, that's it hahaha! On to the next adventure: Bangkok, Thailand *wink*

Love Always,

Mochi Ice Nicoco

However I'm 24 now, sooo...

The title will be relevant, I promise.
Anyway this is the continuation of my ever-so-late post about my Hong Kong trip last year. Some would wonder. "Why even bother blogging about something that happened last year?". well the answer is, Because this is my blog and because I can STFU I want to preserve the memories, despite it being not as fresh as it was last year. Upon re-visiting this blog, and reading some of my thoughts when I was an awkward, always self-conscious teenager (well, I'm still awkward, but less self-conscious because I'm all about the YOLO state of mind now), I suddenly had the urge to write again. It reminded me of the main reason why I blogged in the first place, and that is for me to have a medium that will give me a glimpse on how I used to think, and evaluate how I've changed through the years. Anyhoo, we can discuss about that in a separate post, moving on...

http://anastasiagreenleaf.tumblr.com/post/165359696018

Alright, so let me continue storytelling my Hong Kong trip by starting this with Day 2.

DAY 2

I think this needs a special shout out. Thank you, Hannah for the tights :)

Outside of Chung King Mansions
As I have mentioned in my previous post, for our first 2 days we stayed in Chung King Mansions (yup with an S), and oh boy how awful it was. Unlike others who start their trip going to Disneyland filling themselves with positivity and happy thoughts, me and the #TitasOfManila started the day off on the wrong foot. First, since our hotel is at the 12th floor, by the time it arrived on our floor the elevator going down is already jampacked, leaving us with no choice but to take the stairs. Now, there were a lot of awful and scary stories about the Chung King Mansions, especially on the subject of, 'do not take the stairs' angle (like this one or this one), but we don't have the privilege of time to wait and wait until the elevator becomes vacant, hence we have no choice but off to the stairs.

https://sudokuyomi.tumblr.com/post/158252588562
Me, minus the train.

The Second troubled incident was, while going down the stairs, we saw a tall African man reeking of alcohol, looking like he is waiting for someone. My initial action was to walk 2 steps back (since I was leading the group, I was walking in front), and somehow this triggered the drunkard. When he noticed my hesitation to walk his way, he started saying, "Are you scared of me, little girl?" repeatedly, which then made me truly scared. But what made me decide to just go pass him and get this over with is not the instant jolt of courage, but because he smells absolutely repulsive, that I JUST CAN'T anymore. So there, my very picky nose saved the day.

http://ghostelic.tumblr.com/post/120911261734
He really stinks

The last sick thing that day was the amount of ogling that I have experienced while leaving the establishment. You know it is a bona fide harrassment when the men are looking at you menacingly as you pass by. If this happened in my country (shout out to The Philippines), I would have spat something that will humiliate them, and have my umbrella ready just in case they would assault me Hala warfreak, however since Chung King is not in Manila, and I'm dealing with men of different nationalities, I decided to just walk with my chin up. Now, if you're asking me what I was wearing that day, shame on you-but you'll still get to see it, because I look fab in it.

Moving on...

We took the MTR going to Tung Chung, then from there we board the train going to Sunny Bay. By the way, I advise if you're going to HK avail yourself an Octopus card from the airport (or any MTR stations). The Octopus card can be used in trains, buses, food courts, and shops, however taxis are out of the equation. You can have your octopus card loaded at the nearest MTR, or even in some select 7 Eleven stores scattered all over the city. The MTR has a HKD 50 deposit, where you can have it cashed out in the airport. It's efficient to have an Octopus card, because with it you can just have it in your pocket, and saves you the effort and time from pulling out your wallet every single time. Also, the HKD 50 deposit fee can be your extra money for buying senseless stuff in the airport before you leave the country :)

No Mickey is hidden here.

The trains going to the Disneyland park is distinct, not only because of the cute Mickey Mouse-shaped windows, Mickey Mouse handles, and plush velvet seats, but because all throughout your 2 minute (or so) travel from Tung Chung to Sunny Bay, Disney songs can be heard all over the train cabin. It will certainly prep you up for what's in store.

Quintessential tourist shot

After getting off the train, you'll have to walk around 50+ meters before you get to enter the park. Aside from the big Disneyland Arc, you'll see a big fountain with a huge whale with Mickey atop the water being sprouted by the whale. Another tip I can give you is to buy your tickets in advance. There are instances where park tickets are more affordable online, just make sure you have your credit card with you when you redeem your ticket at the park's entrance.

Hallo Mickey and Minnie

ALL SMILES!
Upon entering the Park, you'll be greeted with the huge Mickey Mouse facade. Since we were there on a September, the whole park was clad up in Halloween themes, hence the abundance of Pumpkins. At the back of the facade shows the Main Street USA where the whole street is packed with shops and food stores. Anyway, I'll just dump some photos here because I'm lazy to give a detailed story Hahahaha :))

SEPANX SI KUYA

Hi Ate girl

Another amazing tip I just found out recently is that you can have your purchases forwarded to the front desk/part of the park. I remember buying that Disney Animator doll before the fireworks display, because I kept on thinking how it is such a hassle to lug around with a huge doll while queuing for rides. This is very helpful, because in every part of the park there are stores with different themes. For instance, in Tomorrowland the store there has a Star Wars themed shop, where there are shirts, and other expensive memorabilia being sold there that aren't available in other parts of the park, then there are some stores that has sales. It would also be a hassle to go back to the specific stores by the end of your trip, right? Basically, here's an enumerated list of things to consider when you go to HK Disneyland:

1. Bring your own bottle. There are some spots in the park that refills water for free. If you're not open with the idea of paying HKD 30 for beverage (which is being sold in Mongkok for HKD 5 only haha!), might as well be equipped with one.
2. Don't bring Selfie Sticks; They will end up confiscating it anyway.
3. Check their website prior to purchasing a ticket. Sometimes they have certain events that closes down certain parts of the park. In our case, when we were there the Mystic Point, Toy Storyland, and Grizzly Gulch were exclusively opened for Citibank employees only. Muy Triste, indeed!
4. Bring a small, sturdy bag, preferably a sling or backpack.
5. Go early! There are some rides that you'll definitely want to ride again (i.e. Mystic Manor, and Space Mountain).
6. Take a lot of pictures!
7. Bring a powerbank. SERIOUSLY.
8. If you see something you reaaaally like, go buy it! Don't delude yourself by thinking that you can just buy it from the Disney Store in the airport-It is much more expensive in the airport.
9. Don't miss the finale fireworks display! However, I remember talking to a park attendant at some point, and she informed me that they don't do the fireworks display every day, soooooo might as well go there on a Friday or Saturday para sigurado hahaha!
10. Have fun! Leave your adulting ways behind ;)

Indeed, it was the happiest place in the world :)
