Cabbages and Condoms

by - December 06, 2017

Nope, I'm not dumping 2 random words to make a click-bait title for my blog post, Cabbages and Condoms is a legit thing. What is it exactly? Well...

I suppose the word Cabbages in its name gave off an obvious idea already, because Cabbages & Condoms is a restaurant. It is located at 10 Sukhumvit Soi 12 Klongtoey, Bangkok, where you can use Korea Town Plaza as a landmark, since the restaurant itself is not located in the main road.

Here you go hahaha!
You're probably thinking, 'Condoms? Why condoms?', but before I answer that, let me dump some photos of the place for your entertainment :)

Yup, made of condoms hahaha!

Reference, anyone?

Yup, they give out free condoms hahaha!

Ummm, Nice blooms?

Haute Couture
Retro.
Yup, the whole place is adorned with condoms, from clothing up to floral arrangements, there is no shortage of condoms. But besides its novelty. the restaurant is more than just a giggly thing. Cabbages and Condoms restaurant is more than a quirky name, it's actually a social movement. You see, this restaurant was actually started by an ex-politician named Mechai Viravaidya, who is championing relevant social issues, one of which is family planning and sexual health. By putting up this restaurant, a fraction of the profit goes to various projects and programmes of Population and Community Development Association (PDA) of Thailand, not bad, right?

Too hungry to flatlay

*drooooooling*

You know what else is not bad? The food itself! Aside from being a platform for educating the masses about sexual health, the food in this place is actually good! I couldn't recall much of all the food I ate then, but I can definitely vouch for their sticky rice and mango! It is the perfect contrast to all the spicy dishes like the Nor Mai Farang Phad Gung, which literally burnt my tongue huhuhu!

After stuffing yourself with the best Thai food in town, you can swing by their handicraft store to buy different Nick Knacks, like these bad boys:

Soooo, would I recommend people to go here should they ever find themselves hungry in Bangkok? Why, of course yes! Just make sure to remember that they are open from 11 am to 10 pm. Although, just a friendly advise, better not bring that conservative aunt of yours who is anti-RH bill, unless you wouldn't mind hearing a 2-hour sermon hahaha!

Love Always,

Nicole
