Nope, I'm not dumping 2 random words to make a click-bait title for my blog post, Cabbages and Condoms is a legit thing. What is it exactly? Well...

I suppose the word Cabbages in its name gave off an obvious idea already, because Cabbages & Condoms is a restaurant. It is located at 10 Sukhumvit Soi 12 Klongtoey, Bangkok, where you can use Korea Town Plaza as a landmark, since the restaurant itself is not located in the main road.

Here you go hahaha!
You're probably thinking, 'Condoms? Why condoms?', but before I answer that, let me dump some photos of the place for your entertainment :)

Yup, made of condoms hahaha!

Reference, anyone?

Yup, they give out free condoms hahaha!

Ummm, Nice blooms?

Haute Couture
Retro.
Yup, the whole place is adorned with condoms, from clothing up to floral arrangements, there is no shortage of condoms. But besides its novelty. the restaurant is more than just a giggly thing. Cabbages and Condoms restaurant is more than a quirky name, it's actually a social movement. You see, this restaurant was actually started by an ex-politician named Mechai Viravaidya, who is championing relevant social issues, one of which is family planning and sexual health. By putting up this restaurant, a fraction of the profit goes to various projects and programmes of Population and Community Development Association (PDA) of Thailand, not bad, right?

Too hungry to flatlay

*drooooooling*

You know what else is not bad? The food itself! Aside from being a platform for educating the masses about sexual health, the food in this place is actually good! I couldn't recall much of all the food I ate then, but I can definitely vouch for their sticky rice and mango! It is the perfect contrast to all the spicy dishes like the Nor Mai Farang Phad Gung, which literally burnt my tongue huhuhu!

After stuffing yourself with the best Thai food in town, you can swing by their handicraft store to buy different Nick Knacks, like these bad boys:

Soooo, would I recommend people to go here should they ever find themselves hungry in Bangkok? Why, of course yes! Just make sure to remember that they are open from 11 am to 10 pm. Although, just a friendly advise, better not bring that conservative aunt of yours who is anti-RH bill, unless you wouldn't mind hearing a 2-hour sermon hahaha!

Love Always,

Nicole

SAWADEEEEE KAAAAA! Soooo, I just came back from Thailand yesterday, and I think I may be suffering from post-traveling depression, hahaha! All I wanna do right now is to prepare my luggage for another journey, and off I go to anywhere I initially am not excited for.

Initially, that's how I feel about this Thailand trip. I'm not that excited to travel to Bangkok, because I thought it'll be very similar to The Philippines, so what's the fuss? Truth be told, it is indeed very similar to my home base, but contrasting as well. Anyhoo, let me story tell my trip to the Land of The Free Taste Smiles :)

You see, Manila traffic is delirious, that's why it is a must to be at the airport much earlier than the usual 2 hours before your flight time-frame. Our flight to Bangkok was at 9:44 am last November 30 and I remember waking up at 5 am, and left home at 5:30 a.m. from Pasig to Paranaque, where Terminal 2 is. Fortunately, it is a Philippine Holiday that day, so there were no work or classes, hence no traffic (woohooo!). Arrived at the airport at around 6:00 a.m., then proceed for check-in and immigration.

Huhuhuhu

Airplane food 😍😍😍

Because Calligraphy is lifeuuuu!
It was my first time to fly with Philippine Airlines, and I must say I feel well-taken care of throughout the 3 hour flight going to Bangkok. Here are the things I liked about this plane ride:
1. Good food is goooood! I was expecting it to be bland and tasteless, but I was proven wrong!
2. In-Flight Entertainment. This is perfect for first-time riders, since it takes off the jitters and nerves whenever there's turbulence.
3. Free 30 minute Wi-Fi worth 15 MB. Though, PAL also offers other Wi-Fi options but for a fee.
4. Unlimited liquor and drinks! I had 2 glasses of Orange Juice and 2 glasses of Red Wine. Life is Gooood!

We arrived at Suvarnabhumi airport at around 13:00 Philippine time, and 12:00 Thailand Time. You see, Thailand is an hour later than the Philippines, so instead of adjusting the time in my watch, I just subtract an hour hahaha Tamad pala. Suvarnabhumi airport is modern, and quite similar to Hong Kong International Airport. I don't know, but are airports all over the world has this template for architecture? Why is Philippines not informed? HAHAHA!

Hulas face with focused bebegel Annie Rose hahahah!
Straight from the airport, we headed to Wat Trimit / Traimit, or Temple of Golden Buddha. According to our tour guide, Cris, the word Wat means Temple in Thai language. So, if you see places called Wat this or Wat that, it doesn't mean it's asking you what this is or what is that hahahaha Corny, kill me nao. Wat Trimit is located in Bangkok's China town, which looks and feel similar to the China Town we have here in Manila. Like in Manila's China town, the roads and streets are very narrow, hence the traffic it ensues, oh dear.

In order to see the Golden Buddha, one must climb flights of stairs, then must take off their shoes upon entering the temple. To all the ladies (and even men), I advise that you get your feet pampered and pedicured before heading to Thailand, because you'll be barefoot majority of the time.

Yup, those Log-like things are the toes of the reclining Buddha.

BEBEGELSUNITED HAHAHAH!

Legit Sawadee Cat
A tiny fraction of the wall from the Temple of The Reclining Buddha.

Huhuhu so yummy!

The HULAS Crew

The next place in our itinerary was the Wat Pho or Po, which is the Temple of The Reclining Buddha, and Dayuuum Son, I was shookt to the core when I saw how humongous the reclining Buddha is! I think it measures up to around 40-50 meters long, and I'm not even exaggerating here! Aside from the Reclining Buddha, the whole compound/complex consists of mini temples with various Buddhas in it. Everything is so golden, and the designs in every corner is so intricate, it'll make your eyes water! I think I got so overwhelmed, that I ended up hungry which made me devour the chicken soup from outside the temple. Ohhhhhhhhh, it's soooooo goood, for 40 Baht the serving is big and can fill up the tummies of 2 starving girls-or rather women hahaha! Thai Street Food is the best!

After all the temples, we decided to head over to our hotel at the Baiyoke Suite Hotel to FINALLY check-in our luggages, and freshen up before we head to have our dinner in Cabbages and Condoms-Yup, that really is the name of the restaurant :) Will talk about that in a separate post, because it deserves more air time hahaha!

Will post about the Day 2 soon, because if I try to cram all of the 4 days in one post, your eyes will bleed hahaha!

... If the fish swum out of the ocean, and grew legs and they started walking. If the apes came down from the treeees, and grew tall and started talking- ok enough hahaha! I can't help but sing Sam Sparro's or Ellie Goulding's version of Black and Gold. Anyway, I wasn't intending to create a matching gold skirt and sequined heels, in fact it should've been a metallic purple instead. But since my weakness is everything gold golddigger pala hahaha, I gave in and colored it in gold instead.

Also, a quick tip: Buy a white ink pen! White ink pen does wonders, especially in emphasizing highlights, or making some details look shiny *wink*.

Anyway, here are the materials I used to create this beauty:
👑Faber Castell Mechanical Pencil
👑Canson 200gsm Watercolor Paper
👑Sakura Gelly Roll White Pen
👑Sakura Koi Pocket Field Sketch Box 24's

Here's to a blingin' weekend to everyone! Happy Friday!

Love Always,

Nicole

P.S.

Here you go! Sam Sparro ❤️❤️

Yup, this is me and other aspiring Cheveners.
Waiting is the hardest thing to do. It's harder than actual suffering in ways of drafting essays, and researching is. It is also in waiting that we get to see someone's true colors, hence the saying Patience is a virtue. I'm pretty sure, those who have applied for the Chevening Scholarship is feeling all antsy and nervous right now, because like them, I have to wait for Chevening if they'll put my application to the next round... by February 2018.

So, you're asking, 'What is Chevening?', where your mind is most probably pronouncing it as Che-ve-ning. Chevening, or Shiv-Ning is a scholarship funded by the United Kingdom Government. It offers opportunities for people from different countries to pursue their postgraduate studies in The UK, and in this way be able to contribute to their own countries. So, if you're granted to be one of the scholars from this prestigious scholarship, you get to study in your chosen UK university, then after graduating (after a year), you must go back to your country, and serve for 2 years.

The thing with Chevening is, it is VERY COMPETITIVE. The brightest, most impressive future leaders of different countries apply for this. Upon stalking checking, I've noticed that those who were granted scholarship are future doctors, economists, lawyers, and other jaw-dropping important careers that made me shrink up, upon realizing what I finished in college, and what area I am planning to study should I get this scholarship. Man, I'm scared.

Me too Will, Me too.
To apply for the Chevening scholarship has been a lingering thought for me for the past 2 years, but I've never gotten to try to apply because of so many factors, but mostly because of fear. I have always feared that I may not be ready yet to apply, that my skills and knowledge is not enough, and that I'm not good enough. However, things changed this year, since I figured I'm not getting any younger, and this dream of mine to study in UK must be fulfilled before I turn 30. With that, I decided to fill in the application, created 4 essays, reconnected with my most favorite professor, and went to UKEAS for guidance for applications to different schools in UK... which leaves me to... Waiting.

In waiting for the things we want the most, the best thing to do is pray, and let God unfold his amazing plans before your eyes.

Love Always,

Nicole

The last time I check November should be a chilly and cozy month, but November 2017 is quite the contrary. With that, I couldn't help but fantasize being in a beach resort right now, donning this green ruffled frock, while sipping something cold and sweet.

Materials used:
🔆Canson Watercolor 200 GSM
🔆Prang Watercolor set of 16's
🔆Faber Castell Watercolor Pencils

By the way, next week will be a very loooong weekend, having Monday-Wednesday as Non-working holidays due to the ASEAN summit, couldn't help but ponder if I should hit the beach and get stuck in the traffic going there, or stay home pester my boyfriend to let me play Overwatch and read lotsa books... Hmmm. Now this one is a tough decision to make.

Love Always.

Before I begin, let me get this straight, I am not here to compare Adele's albums (and ugh, it's 25 not 24 yow).

https://78.media.tumblr.com/bf750c1ee5f5e9ba757025c7e2803078/tumblr_o0xvp1hJb71r9dm6no2_r1_500.gif
But I'll always have time for you, Kweeeen!

Instead, this is a simple post comparing 19 years old Nicole from 25 years old Nicole. Why am I doing this? I don't know really, I should be doing a personal statement for University applications, but suddenly felt the urge to do this kind of post hahaha! But kidding aside, I suppose I just want to look back, at the same time re-evaluate how much I have changed NAKS!  Since one of my reasons why I started blogging was for the benefit of my future self, where I could go crawling back to this page to remind me how I was. Also, I think this is a great tool to introduce how I was to my kids someday, where they'll realize how awezuuum their mom was and still is.

Anyway, let's get started by this:

1. 19 Year old Nicole is skinnier than 24 Year old Nicole.
19 year old Nicole can go bendy without the shame of a fat belly.

24 Year Old Nicole depends on angles, and the right clothing hacks.

I don't think it's surprising to see how most people get lumpier after they graduated from college/school, and I guess the main reason is the lack of funds for eating out. Since I didn't really come from a well-off family, my allowance is just enough to get by, enough to buy a Lovelite Bacon and Hotdog meal, and to save for a book hahaha-Basically the best thing you can buy with Php 55.I don't really indulge in all the yumminess of a Starbucks frappe, or any other calorie bombs back then. Nowadays, I get to earn my own money by working, I get to buy all the junk that I want, hence the additional flabs.

But aside the monetary difference, my metabolism drastically slowed down! Before, I could eat half a bilao of Pancit Malabon, and still wake up the next day with a flat stomach. That case is quite the contrary today! If I eat a piece of toast right now, tomorrow morning I am pregnant with
4 months-sized food baby! That's why I try to make sure to walk as much as I could, as a form of exercise (too lazy to go jogging hahahuhu), or try to incorporate a bit of sports when given the time.

2. 19 year old Nicole can stay awake until the wee hours, while 24 year old Nicole can sleep any time, any where.

http://eleanekollia.tumblr.com/
Me, now.

Perhaps I'm making up for all the times I didn't sleep when I was younger, that's why I'm always sleepy nowadays? I have no idea how can I be awake for 24 hours straight before without a drop of coffee in my bloodstream, however the case is very different nowadays. At present times, I would drink coffee, but would end up with a head ache, and an insurmountable urge to nap-anywhere, anytime! Huhuhu.

3. 19 year old Nicole reads A LOT, while 24 year old Nicole is too lazy to finish a book.
These are a few of my favorite things.

I remember back when I was a senior Communication Arts Student in UST, despite mountainous levels of readings (I shit you not, we read A LOT) thanks to Media Law, Marketing, Thesis, and other subjects, I still manage to read a novel at least once a month! But the case nowadays is the opposite of how I was. I don't get to read that much anymore, perhaps because there's a lot of distractions (looking at you Facebook and Instagram!) that reading had lost its luster in my eyes? The last book I truly enjoyed was Kevin Kwan's Rich People Problems, and that was last May!

Although, I'm trying to kick that lazy-lack-of-focus ways, and go back to reading! Heck, I even hoarded some books from National Bookstore this weekend, to jump-start myself to reading a lot once again. As of this moment, I'm reading Kinsella's My (not-so) Perfect Life, which I will blog about once I finished it hahaha!

4. 19 year old Nicole is addicted to hats and beanies, while 24 year old Nicole... not so much.
THAT PINK BEANIE and how it almost ended a relationship haha!
People who are close to me would definitely attest to that. I used to collect beanies in different colors, from different brands. The first one that I had was a gift from my cousin, Lot while prancing our ways to the once-new Forever 21 store in Megamall. Since then, I can't get enough of beanies! It was my style staple back then, much like Spinelli from that cartoon called Recess.

But that was in my youth HAHAHA Thunder cats here, nowadays I only wear hats when necessary, like when I'm at the beach, or when it's extremely sunny. I don't feel comfortable wearing a beanie now, I feel as if my scalp can't breathe when I have a crocheted thing on top of it. Also, I don't wear beanies as much as I did before, because I think it makes me look so young, and people tend not to take me seriously :/

5. 19 year old Nicole is determined that Advertising is her calling, while 24 year old Nicole is still testing the waters.
Hmmm
Amongst the myriad of areas Communication Arts have, Advertising and Marketing are the subjects I love the most. I found it very intriguing, and fun, that I was certain that after finishing college I'll work in an Advertising agency right away.

But of course, that's not the case here. After graduating, I ended up working in a BPO for a real estate company called Amicassa Process Solutions, Inc., which was a far cry from my goal of being part of Publicis JimenezBasic's workforce. While working in Amicassa, I absolutely dreaded my work! I remember even thinking of bailing out, and just stop going to work hahaha! But the adult in me decided to strive, and work hard-and also, I have amazing colleagues that made everyday bearable.

Eventually I ended up in an Advertising agency, and from then on I've been employed to various companies in different industries. At a glance, to HR officers especially, a person who's been through 5 different jobs in 4 years is a red flag, and yes, I do understand where they are coming from. But come to think of it, if I hadn't gone through all those work, I don't think I'd be as adaptable and versatile, which is a good thing.

As of now, I enjoy my work in a production house, but who knows perhaps next year I'll be in London studying *fingers crossed*

6. 19 year old Nicole thought she'll most likely get married at 23, while 24 year old Nicole does not want to get married anytime soon.

Bling bling bling!
First and foremost, I've got nothing against people who got married or will get married at a young age, in fact I think it's really sweet, and fortunate to be able to marry your one true love sooner, in that way you get to spend more time with them. When I was 19, I thought I will end up marrying the guy I was with at that time, when I reach the age of 23. I remember thinking then, 'Ok so this is the plan, after graduating I will apply in an Advertising agency, while he'll work in his chosen industry. By the time I'm 23, and he's 26, we'll be able to climb the career ladder by then, and eventually get married'. Just thinking about that made me want to laugh right now hahahaha! I didn't even incorporated my dream of studying in London in that plan, I was just fixated on choosing to want to be with the guy in the future.

Fast forward to 5 years later, I have no plans of getting married anytime soon. Currently I'm in a loving relationship, but marriage is not in the near future for me and my boyfriend. I mean, sure I do get excited in thinking about weddings, especially in designing how my future wedding gown will look like (with a beaded hooded cape, of course!), but that's just it hahaha! For me, at the moment, the only commitment I'm investing on right now is to find opportunities to be able to study in London. Marriage can wait, but my dreams can't.

Me, in every wedding.
There are still a lot of changes between the skinny, naive, but fiercely determined 19 year old Nicole, and the always hungry 24 year old Nicole, but I'd narrow it down to this 6 only ;)

Love Always,

Nicole
